Welcome to Ratz - Bechtel Funeral Home

When E. E. Ratz and Orton Bechtel formed their partnership in 1928, they began a tradition of service that has gained the trust and respect of Kitchener-Waterloo residents for generations.
The business was started by Orton Bechtel, on Queen Street in 1925. Three years later, his partnership with E. E. Ratz was born. This association proved to be both reliable and successful. During the intervening years, both the original partners served the community in many ways. E. E. Ratz served as Kitchener’s mayor in 1927 and 1928. In 1949, a nephew of Mr. Ratz offered the partners the use of the old A. R. Kaufman Home, a stately mansion on King Street West in Kitchener. A modern chapel with seating capacity for 185 persons was added, along with other service facilities in 1968. In 1984, the facilities were again expanded to include the first free-standing family centre in Canada. This lovely and spacious building includes offices, a selection room, and complete reception facilities. We are honored and proud to be associated with this beautiful facility, which celebrated its 100th year in 1997.

With its licensed staff of funeral directors, with more than 180 years of collective experience, plus a full complement of supporting staff, the tradition of providing the best personalized service in the Waterloo Region continues where Mr. Ratz and Mr. Bechtel began almost 80 years ago.
